You can use this server to explore the wonders of the Matrix network, or simply test out continuwuity. This server deployment stays as close to the upstream main branch as much as possible, but also runs a set of patches to make it more suitable for a public deployment like this. This means that you will get the latest features continuwuity and Matrix have to offer, without having to run your own homeserver! Media uploads are limited to 20MiB. We're reasonable though - play fair and we'll be fair! By registering for our instance, you agree to adhere to these terms. Please do not register if you do not wish to agree, or deactivate at the earliest convenience if you wish to disagree later. Having an account on this instance is a privilege, not a right, granted to you by the instance administrators. The below things are NEVER acceptable on our instance and will result in IMMEDIATE deactivation, account lock, or suspension: - Anything that violates the laws of the United Kingdom, Germany, and/or the laws of your local jurisdiction. - Usage of the instance while being under the age of 18. You must be 18 or older to use the instance. - Engaging in or promoting hate speech, bigotry, extremism, doxxing, harassment, spam, controlling or coercive behaviour, unlawful immigration, financial offenses, drugs, weapons (firearms, knives, etc), suicide, self harm, foreign interference, cruelty, stalking, threats, abuse, terrorism, CSAM/CSEM, or grooming (non-exhaustive). - Using the instance to send or spread spam (e.g. sending a lot of unsolicited advertisements) or otherwise being generally disruptive. - Using the service to knowingly or intentionally receive content that violates these terms. - Attempting to impersonate other entities for any reason, including parody. - Attempting to use the instance to cause harm to the instance, its infrastructure, neighbouring infrastructure or services, or others' services and infrastructures. (don't cause damage) - Distributing pornography of any kind, including "softcore", or content of abuse (e.g. gore, animal abuse, etc). This applies to all mediums, drawn, video, photographic, or otherwise. - Distributing malicious content of any kind, including but not limited to, malware, deliberately upsetting media, phishing links. - Distributing intellectual property which you lack the rights to. You take complete liability and ownership of content you provide. - Wasting, misusing, or unfairly using resources provided to the instance. - Targeted attacks of any kind. - Free-range bots (i.e. traveller bots, scraper bots, LLM bots, bots pretending to be real users) - If you wish to run an automated account on our instance, please contact us first. We love bots! We just want to make sure they love us too. Deactivations are permanent and destructive - when deactivated, you will be puppeted to drop your power level in all rooms, remove your own avatar, remove your display name, and leave rooms. All media you sent will also be deleted, and depending on the reason for deactivation, all of your messages may be redacted too. Note: when you self-deactivate, your media and messages are retained. The administrators reserve the right to temporarily partially or fully withold your access to the service (which may escalate to one of the above actions as the result of an investigation) for any of the following reasons: - Several, repeated, or extra credible reports made regarding you, your account, or content provided by you. - This includes reports that your account may have been hacked. If you need to reset your password, please contact @nex:nexy7574.co.uk. - Joining or attempting to join rooms commonly associated with spam and/or other activities that may violate our rules. - Sending a lot of invites or creating a lot of direct messages. - Sending a large volume of messages in a relatively short space of time, or using a lot of storage. - Using a display name, avatar, user ID, or creating and sharing content that is typically or directly associated with radical or extreme movements. - Displaying patterns commonly associated with spam. You will not be deactivated for this, but an admin may contact you. - Sending suspicious links or files. - Having multiple registrations from the same IP address. - Sometimes we see waves of abusive registrations from VPN networks - we may require additional information from you before we can (re-)enable your account. If you are suspended pending investigation, you will usually be automatically unsuspended after some time, or deactivated. If we need information from you, we will contact you directly. ============== Privacy Policy ============== In order to prevent abuse and keep services operational, we store the following data **for up to 7 days** (but usually less): * IP address * User Agent * Request method and path (including query parameters) * Request body lengths (in the case of a POST, PUT, PATCH, or other method that sends content with your request) When you sign up for, or log in (create a new session) to the instance, your IP address and device name are stored. Device names are typically limited to an application name, and sometimes the website address used to sign up (e.g. "app.element.io"). The following content is stored permanently in order to operate the service: - user-supplied unique user identifier (your user ID, like @alice:continuwuity.rocks) - user-supplied content (media**, room aliases*, events*) - groups/rooms you have joined - your display names and profile pictures* - Any other content you may provide voluntarily to the instance (by using it) **: deleted on-demand and occasionally on a schedule *: can be redacted by you without needing administrator support You are responsible for the privacy and security of content you provide. Your interactions with continuwuity.rocks are only digitally secured on the wire, and physically secured from physical threats. It is recommended that you use end-to-end encryption to send and receive any potentially sensitive content. Instance administrators are able to see your account data, such as: you joined room list, the contents of any rooms the server is participating in (potentially as a result of your membership), your media, some client configuration information. Instance administrators CANNOT see any encrypted data, including: encrypted messages, server-side key backup, encrypted device-to-device messages, encrypted media. If we suspect abuse from your account, we MAY deploy investigative technologies such as room exports (viewing every message in a room), or even silently logging in to your account to investigate. This is only done in extreme circumstances. Administrators, per the previous paragraph, cannot access any encrypted messages prior to the start of the investigation this way. Because we do not have your recovery key, if we wanted to access *future* encrypted messages, doing so would create an "unverified device", which almost every client will immediately warn you about. Again, any sensitive information should consequently be only transmitted in end-to-end encrypted rooms. continuwuity.rocks is a Matrix service, which includes federation similar to that of email. When you send traffic in a federated room (any room that has users not on continuwuity.rocks), you are sending "mail" to those other servers too. All federation traffic is encrypted with TLS, even content that may already be encrypted by e2ee. The administrators cannot guarantee that remote servers respect a similar terms of service or privacy policy as ours, and as such we are not responsible for data that has left our instance. This includes edits and redactions, which remote servers may choose to not enact upon (although usually they do unless they are malicious). We also cannot enforce redactions on clients and servers that have already received the unredacted contents. This is a technical limitation. Currently, all user-generated content is stored forever, unless it can be manually redacted by the end user or an administrator. High-friction redactions, such as removing an entire room, is not technically possible at this time.
